On the 18^th April of 2012 Pivovarov Victor Fedorovich - Director of the All-Russian Research Institute of Vegetable Breeding and Seed Production, Academician of Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Honored Scientist of Russian Federation, State Laureate of Science and Technology, Doctor of Agricultural Science, Professor, is celebrating his 70-th Birthday and 48 years of his scientific and pedagogical activity. Dr. Pivovarov V.F. is the leading scientist in the field of ecology, introduction, horticulture, breeding and seed production of vegetable crops. Dr. Pivovarov V.F. is well-experienced in the field of solution of theoretical and practical problems. V.F. Pivovarov has founded the scientific school of the ecological breeding of vegetables with the complex resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses.

The paper presents the results of the Agricultural Department of RAAS and its research institutes, experimental stations, breeding, biotechnology and technology centers in 2011.

The article summarizes the work undertaken in the Institute for last five years. VNIISSOK is a leader in the field of breeding and seed production of vegetable crops. Staff of the Institute solve a query of producers for food supply security in Russia.

The significance of world germplasm collection of vegetable crops and their wild relatives developed by Vavilov N.I. for scientific and breeding purposes are undertaken in the article.

The evaluation of adaptive and producing capacity of green pea varieties for period of four years has been done. It was found that condition of experimental fields of VNIISSOK can provide the possibility for associated traits of productivity, ecological adaptivity, and their combination in the same genotype.

The green pea collection consisting of 277 geographically distant samples varied in quantitative and qualitative traits was estimated. The molecular analysis of selected samples was conducted for the purpose of reciprocal crossing.

Variability of seven main ornamental traits of the tall-growing, multicolored cultivar «Picotee» ( Cosmos bipinnatus L.) depending on type of growing (through seedlings or direct sowing) was studied. High variability of studied traits, especially such as «the diameter of bush», «the amount of shoots of the first order», and «abundance of flower-ing» was determined. To achieve the uniformity of these traits, the tall-growing plants with the big diameter of bush, with multiple shoots of the first order, and high seed productivity should be selected. The growing through seedlings is recommended.

Standard is the main normative document regulating the important traits of seeds (germination ability, humidity, purity, regime of storage). This regulatory document provides the technological and economical basis for vegetable production and others features of agriculture.

General assay requirements for technological processes at cultivation, mechanized harvest, sorting, storage, transporting, quality, packing, and control are determined.

The production of environmentally safe agricultural products, such as foods and raw material for perfumery, cosmetology, and pharmacological industry is very important today. For the first time the morphological and technological features of spicy-flavor savory and giant hyssop were studied in the condition of Lower Volga Region. The efficiency of the cultivation of these crops in chernozemic zone has been shown.

As a result of state variety trial in Belorussia the new varieties of winter garlic «elovezhskyi», «Soyuz», and «Yunior» were estimated, selected and included in the State register of new crops and varieties.

Analysis of varietal features of appearance of agronomic characters of white head cabbage in condition of induction of ecological variability is shown in the article. The obtained results can be used for breeding of initial material for ecological tolerance and adaptivity.

As a result of screening of the world germplasm collection of the N.I. Vavilov Institute of Plant Industry the cucumber genotypes as a initial breeding material for tolerance to Pseudoperonospora cubensis (Berk. et Curt.) Rostow were selected.

Architectonics of dill seed-plant and ripeness level of seeds determine the linear sizes of embryo, exerting an influence on dormant stage, speed of embryo development, and main quality characteristics of seeds, which are responsible for their germination ability.

All indicators which are given in this article make us clear that pesticides bring out a considerable economic effect because of pesticide's special characteristics. Pesticides allow not only to save harvest and to minimize risk, but to enlarge agriculture capital productivity. Skilful and efficient pesticides application allows to cut down harvest shortage in Russian Federation, besides that, to minimize it.

The importance of scientific efforts and practical implementation of innovative researches and technologies into unstable market environment are underlined in the article. This special model could improve efficiency of innovative enterprise management having specific targets of development and practice determinations.

On the 12-November of 2012 world scientific community of genetics, plant breeders will celebrate the 125-th birthday of N.I. Vavilov, the first scholar of the day.

Sakhalin island is one of the regions of Russia with extreme climatic conditions. The first scientist in the field of biology, agriculture, and agro-ecology of Sakhalin region was Zimina Tatiana Alekseevna, Doctor of agricultural science. On the 26^th November of 2011 the scientific community of genetics and plant breeders celebrated the 90-th birthday of Zimina T.A. The stuff of VNIISSOK cherish the memory of her as one of the talented scientist and devotee citizen.
