Abstract
On 16 November, 2011 the annual review session on scientific and industrial projects of research institutions for vegetable plant and potato breeding during 2011 and consideration of new projects for 2012 took place at All-Russian Research Institute of Vegetable Breeding and Seed Production.

THEORY AND PRACTICE OF VEGETABLE PLANT BREEDING

8-11 353
Abstract
The challenges concerning the development of cabbage seed management and production in Russia are to be resolved by combined approaches in order to fully supply the vegetable market and population with home-selected varieties and heterosis hybrids.

Abstract
9-23 August, 2011 Russian-Kazakh-Japanese expedition around south territory of Kazakhstan was conducted and the resulting 145 accessions of local and new entries of melon, watermelon, pumpkin and cucumber were gathered to be included into genetic collection of Vavilov Research Institute of Plant Industry. To all these accessions have been given a detailed description based on morphological, economical and biochemical characteristics.

ADVANCED DIRECTIONS IN VEGETABLE PLANTS BREEDING

20-21 397
Abstract
Molecular markers were used for screening of the onion plants of VNIISSOK's breeding for cytoplasmic male sterility. Allelic variations of the mitochondrial genes orfА501 and cob were reveled among studied onion samples. Use of the PCR-markers for these genes allowed identifying the cytoplasmic types of 14 onion genotypes. Application of these molecular markers in breeding program could help to select genotypes wit certain type of cytoplasm and may be useful for high throughput identification of cytoplasmic male sterile factors in large onion breeding populations.

Abstract
The morphological marker characteristics of the flower and cytological features of microgametogenesis and microsporo-genesis in sterile plants have been studied to identify and select plants bearing Ogura male sterility type. As result of analysis of hybrid plants and inbreeding progenies based on male sterile form of Japanese radish the three groups of progenies were observed with 100 % of sterile plants, all of them are to be the initial breeding lines for production of radish hybrids F1.

Abstract
Adaptive proprieties of pea accessions can be estimated at the final stage of breeding program in the area of All-Russian Research Institute of Vegetable Breeding and Seed Production (VNIISSOK) for four years of trial. For effective selection of varieties and hybrids the attention should be paid to searching and elaborating informative environment grounds using for plant selection.

PROBLEMS OF STORAGE AND PROCESSING OF VEGETABLE PRODUCTS

36-37 362
Abstract
The technical features and conditions for normalization of quality characteristics of tomato juice regarded as a human food have been elaborated without direct wringing and preliminary preheating of tomato fruits in presence of salt and sugar.

MEDICINAL, AROMATIC AND FAVOURING CROPS

38-45 363
Abstract
The last 10 years achievements of breeding program for spicy, flavouring and aromatic plant crops at All-Russian Research Institute of Vegetable Breeding and Seed Production (VNIISSOK) are shown. The concise descriptions of some horticulturally valuable traits among new developed varieties selected at VNIISSOK were given.

INTRODUCTION OF VEGETABLE CROPS

46-49 386
Abstract
Edible chrysanthemum is a new plant culture that can be very valuable source of vitamins, mineral substances, particularly potassium and biologically active matters. An extract from foliage of chrysanthemum contains nearly as much antioxidant efficiency as in extract from ginseng.

NEW VARIETIES OF VEGETABLE CROPS

50-51 311
Abstract
The description of new developed Avrora and Snezhinka F1 hybrids of white head cabbage which were selected at All-Russian Research Institute of Vegetable Breeding and Seed Production (VNIISSOK) is given.
52-53 393
Abstract
At All-Russian Research Institute of Vegetable Breeding and Seed Production the new varieties of bean, Mariinka and Antoshka were selected. The morphological and biological descriptions of these varieties were given in the article.

SEED PRODUCTION

54-57 343
Abstract
Results of the study on seed productivity of Garden Nasturtium varieties grown in south-west of central-cher-nozem region are presented in the article. It was shown the variety reaction on condition of cultivation.
