ADVANCED PRINCIPLES FOR BREEDING

4-9 286
Abstract
On 14-18 June, 2011, XI international symposium on «New and nontraditional Plant Cultures and Prospects of Their Use» was hosted by Institute of Fundamental Problems of Biology, RAS.

THEORY AND PRACTICE OF VEGETABLE PLANT BREEDING

10-13 326
Abstract
Exogenous factors affecting on the expression of apomixis in cabbage have been identified. Apomictic seeds developed into embryoids were observed in three cabbage varieties such as Jana, Lazurnaya and Lesia (Ukraine). Thus, it was possible to induce an incomplete organogenesis of parthenogenesis seeds originated from these four varieties of cabbage. The occurrence of apomixis was provoked by the synergitic effect of plant growth regulators and alien pollen applied simultaneously as an aqueous mixture of gibberellins and cytokinin applied on the base of the pistil, while the alien pollen (Chinese radish - Loba) was placed on the stigma of castrated cabbage buds 2-3 days before they disclose.

PLANTS PHYSIOLOGY AND PHYTOCHEMISTRY

14-20 380
Abstract
Contributions of main factors and their interaction effects on development of the allelopathic activity of seeds have been shown. The specificity of distribution of factor influence portion has been revealed depending on extract concentration.

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES FOR CULTIVATION OF VEGETABLE CROPS

21-25 377
Abstract

The mineral fertilizers affect positively on plant growth and development. It was shown that the positive dependence between increased doses of mineral noutrition (in the gap from 0 to 120 kg. per hectare) and the growth of generative and vegetative plant organs. Application of NPK fertilize (120-120-120) was optimal to produce the maximum yield of marketable bulb onion 43.1 tons/hectare, with additional increase 22.8 tons /hectare as compared with standard. Seed plants also produced 1065 kg/hectare of seeds; that was more than 100 % compared with standard.

MEDICINAL AND AROMATIC CULTURAL PLANTS

26-29 362
Abstract
he results of research on features of propagation of new medicinal and aromatic plant crops, nontraditional and traditional cultures such as Lophantus anisatus Benth, Hyssopus officinalis L. are highlighted in the article. The results that were obtained describe the influence of chemicals for active growth on root formation onto grafts of Hyssopus officinalis L.
30-32 451
Abstract
The technology that is elaborated is to grow purple cone-flower (Echinacea Purpurea L.) producing appropriate roots and rhizomes that can be used to obtain at the same time the additional output in the substance of juice from both the foliage and dry plants. Optimal results on yield and quality of additional output were achieved when the plants were rejuvenated at the stage of budding.
33-35 345
Abstract
The results presented in the article concerns the variety productivity of annual and biennial peppermint rhizomes grown on sod-podzolic soils with successive and simultaneous addition of mineral, organic fertilizers and lime.

PROBLEMS OF STORAGE AND PROCESSING OF VEGETABLE PRODUCTS

36-39 341
Abstract
The main arm of the each producer is to preserve vegetables and then to use them completely. That is why it is important to study the storage longevity of tomato fruits collected by harvesting machine affecting on the quality of final products.
40-42 351
Abstract
The different varieties of cabbage were assessed to be suitable for processing technology. As result of assessment, the best cultivars and heterosis hybrids have been chosen for this proposes. The canned products were also trialed.

SEED PRODUCTION

43-46 350
Abstract
The results presented in the article concerns the optimization of main technological means of bulb onion seed production in Byelorussia. The production mother bulbs from seeds and planting onion are highlighted in the article. Influence of both diameter of mother bulbs and density of grown plants on yield capacity and sowing quality of seeds has been identified. The comparative assessment of seed production in triennial and biennial cultivation has been carried out.

ECONOMICS IN VEGETABLE BREEDING

47-55 340
Abstract
The results of many years' research on elaboration technology for carrot cultivation in vertical zones of Central Pre-Caucasus are presented in the article. The integrated estimation of the economic efficiency of this technology has been carried out.

TO MEMORY OF A SCIENTISTS

58-58 374
Abstract
On 9 August, 2011 K.K. KAZALIEV, renowned worker of agriculture of Russian Federation, honored economist of Republic of Dagestan, researcher (PhD), director of Dagestan Experimental Station of Vegetable Breeding and Viticulture passed away at the age of 62.

VEGETABLES GEOGRAPHY

59-64 335
Abstract
Now the 2011 is a Year of Russian Cosmonautic as it was announced according to the edict of President of Russia Federation. The 50 years from the first human's flight into the space is being marked this year. On 12 April, 1961, for the first time in human's history the Soviet citizen Yuri Gagarin was a first man to perform a flight into the space on board of Vostok spaceship. Having flown around the planet he successfully landed. It was a 108 minutes' flight, only one circle which became the greatest event not only for 20b century but also for history of civilization. All-Russian Research Institute of Vegetable Breeding and Seed Production as some other Research Institutes of RAAS have been now working out the foodstuffs for cosmonauts since the time when Russian Space Exploration Program began.

POST-GRADUATE PROGRAMS

56-57 254
Abstract
In June, 2011 four candidate research works have been maintained and accepted by the members of thesis committee D220.019.01 to confer a PhD degree and a Doctoral degree
