Rules for Authors are based on the CSE’s White Paper on Promotion Integrity in Scientific Journal Publications, 2012.
Aims and objectives of the journal (description of the journal)
The most important objectives of the journal are: generalization of scientific and practical achievements in the field of selection, seed production of vegetables, vegetable growing, physiology and biochemistry of plants, plant protection, agricultural economics, improving the scientific and practical qualifications of scientists, breeders, agronomists - vegetable growers.
The scientific concept of the journal involves the publication of modern achievements, the results of scientific national and international research in the field of vegetable growing, breeding and seed growing of vegetable crops, physiology and biochemistry of plants, plant protection, agricultural economics and related disciplines: biology, biotechnology, introduction, etc.
The journal accepts materials from graduate students, domestic and foreign scientists, breeders, agronomists, other specialists and experts working in the field of agriculture, as well as other related specialties in this field.
The journal accepts for publication original articles, including the results of fundamental research aimed at studying general biological processes in order to improve existing and develop new breeding technologies, seed production of vegetable crops, lectures and literature reviews on a wide range of issues, as well as the results of scientific experimental and practical research. The journal can publish reliable, substantiated materials of scientific and practical importance, differing in relevance and novelty, contributing to an increase in the efficiency of science and production.
An article sent to the editorial office must correspond to the thematic sections of the "Vegetable crops of Russia" journal and must be formatted in accordance with these requirements.
The length of the full text of a scientific article (original research, reviews), including tables and a list of references, should be from 3000 to 6000 words. Short messages are in the range of 1500-2500 words. The number of words in the text can be found using the Microsoft Word menu. ("File" - "View document properties" - "Statistics"). In the case when the volume of the article exceeds the standards, but, according to the author, is justified and cannot be reduced, the decision on publication is made at the meeting of the editorial board on the recommendation of the reviewer.
I. Recommendations to the author before submitting an article
Submission of an article to the "Vegetable crops of Russia" journal implies that:
- the article has not been previously published in another journal;
- the article is not pending in another journal;
- all co-authors agree with the publication of the current version of the article.
Manuscript format
The text should be typed in Times New Roman font,12 ptin size and1.0 ptline spacing. Indentation on each side of the page is2 cm. Highlights in the text can be done ONLY in italics or bold, but NOT underline. All duplicate spaces and extra line breaks must be removed from the text (in automatic mode via the Microsoft Word "find and replace" service).
The file with the text of the article, uploaded to the manuscript submission form, must contain all information for publication (including figures and tables). The structure of the manuscript must meet the requirements below.
Before submitting an article for consideration, make sure that the file (s) contains all the necessary information in Russian and English, that the sources of information contained in the figures and tables are indicated, and that all quotes are correct.
The title page of the article contains (in Russian and English):
i. Name of Author (s)
Authors are people identified by the research team as key contributors to the work presented and who have agreed to take responsibility for their work. In addition to being responsible for their part of the work, the author must be able to indicate which of his co-authors is responsible for other parts of the work.
"Vegetable crops of Russia" journal accepts the following criteria for authorship:
1. Substantial contributions to study idea and design, data collection, or data analysis and interpretation.
2. Preparation of an article or its critical revision in terms of meaningful intellectual content.
3. Final approval of the version of the article for publication.
The contribution of each of the authors is indicated in the article in a special section.
The list of authors does not include people who are not the authors of the article. The names of people who are not authors, but provided other support, are indicated in the "Acknowledgments" section.
In Russian, when specifying the authors of the article, the surname should be indicated after the initials of the name and patronymic (P.S. Ivanov, S.I. Petrov, I.P. Sidorov).
In English, when specifying the authors of the article, the format “Name, patronymic initial, surname” (Ivan I. Ivanov) is used. Surnames in English must be indicated in accordance with the foreign passport or as it was indicated in previously published articles. If the author does not have a foreign passport and / or publications, the BSI standard must be used to transliterate the name and surname.
ii. Information about the author (s)
This section contains the full name of the author, lists the title, position, other regalia, identifiers (Orcid, Scopus ID, Researcher ID). The e-mail of the responsible author is also indicated here.
iii. Affiliation of the author (s)
Affiliation includes the following data: full official name of the organization, full postal address (including postal code, city and country). Authors are required to indicate all places of work relevant to the conduct of the study.
If authors from different institutions participated in the preparation of the article, it is necessary to indicate the affiliation of each author to a specific institution using a superscript.
The official English-language name of the institution is required for the block of information in English.
iv. Title of the article
The title of the article in Russian must correspond to the content of the article.
The English-language title must be competent in terms of the English language, while the meaning fully corresponds to the Russian-language title.
v. Abstract
Recommended length of a structured abstract: 200-250 words. The abstract contains the following sections: Purpose, Methods, Results, Conclusion.
The annotations should not include the newly introduced terms, abbreviations (except for well-known), references to literature.
vi. Key words
5-7 words on the topic of the article. It is desirable that keywords complement the abstract and title of the article.
vii. Acknowledgments
This section indicates all sources of research funding, as well as thanks to people who participated in the work on the article, but are not its authors. Participation in the work on the article implies: recommendations for improving the research, providing space for research, departmental control, obtaining financial support, single types of analysis, providing reagents / patients / animals / other materials for research.
viii. Conflict of interest
A conflict of interest is a condition in which people have conflicting or competing interests that can influence editorial decisions. Conflicts of interest can be potential or perceived, as well as real. Objectivity can be influenced by personal, political, financial, scientific, or religious factors.
The author is obliged to notify the editor of a real or potential conflict of interest by including information about the conflict of interest in the appropriate section of the article.
If there is no conflict of interest, the author must also report it. An example of the wording: "The author declares no conflict of interest."
ix. Text of the article
The journal adopted the IMRAD format (Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion)
x. Drawings
Drawings must be of good quality, suitable for printing.
All figures must have a caption below the figure.
The figure caption must be translated into English.
Figures are numbered in Arabic numerals in the order they appear in the text. If there is only one figure in the text, then it is not numbered.
References to figures are made as follows: “In fig. 3 it is indicated that ... "or" It is indicated that ... (see Fig. 3) ".
The figure caption includes the serial number of the figure and its title. Aligned in the center: “Fig. 2. Description of vital processes".
The dot after the figure caption is not put.
The translation of the figure caption should be placed after the figure caption in Russian.
xi. Tables
Tables should be of good quality and printable. Editable tables are preferred, not scanned or drawn.
All tables must have titles.
The title of the table must be translated into English.
Tables are numbered in Arabic numerals in the order they appear in the text. If there is only one table in the text, then it is not numbered.
References to tables are made as follows: “In table. 3 it is indicated that ... "or" It is indicated that ... (see Table 3) ".
The caption of the table includes the serial number of the table and its title.
Aligned to the center: “Tab. 2. Description of vital processes ".
The dot after the heading of the table is not put.
The translation of the table caption should be placed after the table caption in Russian.
xii. Screenshots and photographs
Photos, screenshots and other non-drawn illustrations must be uploaded separately in a special section of the form for submitting an article in the form of * .jpeg, * .bmp, * .gif files (* .doc and * .docx - if the image additional notes are applied). Image resolution must be> 300 dpi. Image files must be named according to the figure number in the text. In the description of the file, the caption should be given separately, which must correspond to the caption of the photograph placed in the text.
xiii. Footnotes
Footnotes are numbered in Arabic numerals and are placed page by page. Footnotes may contain: links to anonymous sources on the Internet, links to textbooks, teaching aids, GOSTs, statistical reports, articles in socio-political newspapers and magazines, abstracts, dissertations (if it is not possible to cite articles published as a result of the dissertation research ), author's comments.
iv. References
The journal uses theVancouvercitation format, which implies citation of the source in square brackets and the subsequent mention of the sources in the list of references in the order of mention [1]. The list of references includes only peer-reviewed sources (articles from scientific journals and monographs) mentioned in the text of the article. It is undesirable to include abstracts, dissertations, textbooks, teaching aids, GOSTs, information from sites, statistical reports, articles in socio-political newspapers, on sites and in blogs in the list of references. Where such information is to be cited, the source information should be included in a footnote.
When describing a source, its DOI should be indicated if it is possible to find it (for foreign sources, this can be done in 95% of cases).
Links to articles accepted for publication but not yet published should be marked with the words "in print"; authors must obtain written permission to refer to such documents and confirm that they are accepted for publication. Information from unpublished sources must be marked with the words "unpublished data / documents", authors must also obtain written confirmation of the use of such materials.
References to articles from journals must indicate the publication year, volume and number of the journal, page numbers.
All authors should be included in the description of each source.
Links must be verified, the output must be verified on the official website of magazines and / or publishers.
Translation of the list of references into English is required. After the description of the Russian-language source, at the end of the link, an indication of the language of the work is put: (In Russ.).
For transliteration of names and surnames of authors, titles of journals, the BSI standard should be used.
II. How to submit an article for consideration
The manuscript of the article is sent to the editorial office through the online form. The file with the article uploaded into the system must be in Microsoft Word format (have the extension * .doc, * .docx, * .rtf).
III. Interaction between the journal and the author
The editorial office of the journal maintains correspondence with the responsible (contact) author, however, if the team of authors so wishes, letters can be sent to all authors for whom an e-mail address is specified.
All articles submitted to the "Vegetable crops of Russia" journal are preliminary checked by the executive secretary of the journal for compliance with formal requirements. At this stage, the article can be returned to the author (s) for revision with a request to correct errors or add missing data. Also, at this stage, the article may be rejected due to its inconsistency with the goals of the journal, lack of originality, low scientific value.
After a preliminary check, the editor-in-chief submits the article to the reviewer indicating the terms of the review. An appropriate notification is sent to the author.
In controversial cases, the editor can involve several specialists in the review process, as well as the editor-in-chief.
With a positive opinion of the reviewer, the article is transferred to the editor for preparation for publication.
When a decision is made to revise the article, the remarks and comments of the reviewer are transmitted to the author. The author is given 2 months to eliminate comments. If during this period the author has not notified the editors about the planned actions, the article is removed from the publication queue.
When a decision is made to refuse to publish an article, the corresponding editorial decision is sent to the author.
The final version of the layout is sent to the responsible (contact) author of the article accepted for publication, which he must check. A response is expected from the authors within 2 days. In the absence of a response from the author, the layout of the article is considered approved.
IV. The procedure for revising the decisions of the editor / reviewer
If the author does not agree with the conclusion of the reviewer and / or the editor or individual comments, he can challenge the decision. To do this, the author needs to:
- correct the manuscript of the article in accordance with substantiated comments from reviewers and editors;
- clearly state your position on the issue under consideration.
Editors facilitate the resubmission of manuscripts that could potentially be accepted, but were rejected due to the need for significant changes or additional data collection, and are ready to explain in detail what needs to be corrected in the manuscript in order for it to be accepted for publication.
V. Actions of the editors in case of detection of plagiarism, fabrication or falsification of data
In case of detection of unfair behavior on the part of the author, detection of plagiarism, fabrication or falsification of data, the editors are guided by the rules of COPE.
By "unfair behavior" the journal "Vegetables of Russia" means any actions of a scientist, including improper handling of objects of study or deliberate manipulation of scientific information, in which it ceases to reflect the observed research, as well as the behavior of a scientist that does not meet accepted ethical and scientific standards.
Vegetable crops of Russia journal does not classify as “unfair behavior” honest mistakes or honest discrepancies in the plan, conduct, interpretation or evaluation of research methods or results, or unfair behavior not related to the scientific process.
VI. Correction of errors and revocation of the article
If errors are found in the text of the article that affect its perception, but do not distort the stated research results, they can be corrected by replacing the pdf file of the article and indicating the error in the article file itself and on the article page on the journal website.
In case of detection of errors in the text of the article that distort the results of the research, or in the case of plagiarism, detection of unscrupulous behavior of the author (authors) associated with falsification and / or fabrication of data, the article may be withdrawn. The revocation of an article can be initiated by the editorial board, author, organization, or individual.
The withdrawn article is marked with the sign "The article is withdrawn", the article page contains information about the reason for the withdrawal of the article. Information about the revocation of an article is sent to the databases in which the journal is indexed.
